Designed by Physiotherapist Tim Keeley following his own ACL reconstruction surgery and return-to-sport journey, this structured 24-week rehabilitation program combines over 27 years of clinical experience with modern ACL rehabilitation principles.

WHY ACL REHABILITATION MUST BE STRUCTURED

ACL rehabilitation is not simply about doing exercises — it requires a structured progression through swelling management, restoration of movement, muscle activation, strength rebuilding, balance retraining, running progression and return-to-sport preparation. It incorporates principles from contemporary ACL rehabilitation research including the Melbourne ACL Rehabilitation Guide and current return-to-sport guidelines.

Without a structured rehabilitation plan, athletes commonly never complete the full rehabilitation that is required to recovery adequately. They then struggle with:

  • Loss of knee extension and stiffness
  • Persistent swelling and pain
  • Quadriceps weakness and muscle loss
  • Poor balance and movement control
  • Fear of returning to running or sport
  • Higher re-injury risk and instability

  • ACL Rehabilitation Program

This program progressively guides you through every stage of rehabilitation with detailed instruction videos, movement cueing, exercise progressions and weekly goals designed to help restore confidence, strength and athletic function.

WHO IS THIS PROGRAM BEST SUITED FOR?

    ACL RECONSTRUCTION SURGERY

    ACL RECONSTRUCTION
    SURGERY

Designed for patients recovering from ACL reconstruction surgery using hamstring, patella and quadriceps tendon, LARS or allograft reconstructions. The program includes return-to-sport testing and long-term injury prevention.

    NON-OPERATIVE ACL INJURIES

    NON-OPERATIVE
    ACL INJURIES

Suitable for people managing an ACL rupture conservatively (without surgery), restoring range of movement, strength, stability, confidence and knee function to help you safely return to exercise and sporting activities.

    CHRONIC ACL INSUFFICIENCY

    CHRONIC ACL
    INSUFFICIENCY

Ideal for individuals with a previous ACL rupture or reconstruction who have not rehabilitated 100% and continue to experience weakness, instability and reduced confidence in general exercise, running and sport training.

    WHY THIS PROGRAM EXISTS

    Tim's ACL Injury Story

In 2009, Tim tore his ACL and medial meniscus skiing and underwent ACL reconstruction surgery using the LARS system along with a medial meniscal repair. Following surgery, he completed a structured rehabilitation program and successfully returned to skiing 12 months later. That injury became the foundation of the Physio Rehab online rehabilitation programs.

In July 2024, Tim suffered another skiing injury with 3 fractures and further ACL damage, again requiring rehabilitation and progressive rebuilding. These experiences reinforced the importance of structured rehabilitation, consistency and progressive loading to successfully return people back to doing what they love.

    PROGRAM PRE-REQUISITES

    PROGRAM PRE-REQUISITES

Before commencing this rehabilitation program, you must meet the following criteria to ensure safety and suitability:

    1. Had an ACL injury or ACL reconstruction

    2. Medical clearance to commence rehabilitation
You should have clearance from your Surgeon, Physiotherapist and/or healthcare professional to begin a structured rehabilitation program.

    3. Suitable early rehabilitation timeframe
For surgical patients, you should generally be at least 4–7 days post-operative, with pain and swelling beginning to settle and no immediate post-operative complications.
Non-operative patients may begin once the acute pain and swelling phase has started to improve and gentle movement and weight bearing can be tolerated.

    4. No signs of infection or significant post-operative complications
You should not have increasing redness, excessive heat, discharge, severe calf pain, excessive swelling, fevers, or wound healing complications. If concerned, seek immediate medical review.

    5. Safe to begin movement and weight bearing
You should be able to begin gentle knee movement and some level of weight bearing, with crutches or bracing if required, as advised by your healthcare provider.

    6. Follow any brace or movement restrictions prescribed
If you have associated injuries such as a meniscal repair or MCL injury requiring bracing or movement restrictions, continue following your Surgeon’s or Physiotherapist’s guidelines regarding knee range of movement, bracing and weight bearing progression throughout this stage.
